A description of the classes… Winter 2010: “A Winter and White theme”

  • Opening and Closing Rituals – Rituals bring a sense of togetherness, community, and rhythm to our time together. Every session will begin with an Opening Ritual and close with a Closing Ritual.
  • Poetry - “Winter Poems” – A color poem “What is White?” and List Poems with a winter theme will be written during our poetry session together. Music, books, art, photographs, and nature will be an avenue for inspiration as your young poet writes their poems.

A wide variety of materials will be used such as…white crayons, white paint, white oil pastels, cotton balls, white ribbon, white toothpicks, Q-tips, white tissue paper, etc. Children will gently be guided to explore winter themes as they make an accordian book(s) using the various white art materials.
  • Storytelling“Favorite Winter Tales” – Students will have fun re-telling the classic winter books, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats and The Mitten by Jan Brett. Re-telling stories in a group and using various props will add an element of problem-solving and fun!
  • Featured Artist Study – “Ezra Jack Keats” and “Jan Brett” – To continue with our Storytelling theme, children will learn about and produce art inspired by these two beloved children’s book authors/illustrators.
