Purpose

The purpose of our religious education at St. James Catholic Church and School is to create Christian families that will live their vocations following the virtues of the Holy Family of Nazareth.

The General Directory for Catechesis states that the family is the "Domestic Church". In every Christian family, the different aspects and functions of life of the entire church may be reflected. Part of our mission at St. James is to help parents to see the importance of their role in faith formation. One way we can support families is by offering quality religious education.

Baptism

"Truly, truly, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."
John 3:3-5

Baptism Class is for parents of children under the age of seven. If your child is older they must go through children's RCIA. Presently Baptism classes are being offered by Father Felix the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m.

Please call the Parish Office if you are interested in attending baptismal classes. 303.322.7449.

PreKinder

Instructor, Betty Homan, teaches our PreK children every Sunday, at 8:30 a.m. at St.. James School. To register, please call Agustín López at 303.333.5189.

First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

First Reconciliation is a part of First Eucharist. First Reconciliation is offered in Second grade and up. The Sacrament is received in March.

"I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger and he who believes in me shall never thirst."
John 6:35

Our children need the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eurcharist. The love of Christ offered to them in the Blessed Sacrament is presented and celebrated in the one year preparation classes. Presently St. James has three programs in place for First Eurcharist:

Second Graders at St. James Catholic School

These students receive instruction as part of their religious curriculum during the school year.

Second Grade Parishioners

This group meets every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the School.

For more information about the schedule of the classes please call the parish office.

Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth grade Parishioners

This group also meets at the School each Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Briana Goodfellow is the instructor.

Registration for classes begin in August of each year and end mid to late September. Please contact the parish for future enrollment possibilities.

Confirmation

"I indeed have baptized you with water but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
Mark 1:8

The sacrament of confirmation completes and fulfills Christian initiation. We were introduced into our faith at an early age and confirmation signifies our public and definitive adhesion to Christ, Priest, Prophet and King. Our confirmation program is a deep immersion into the beauty and the joy of our Catholic Faith.

School

Eighth grade students at St. James Catholic School receive instruction as part of their religious curriculum throughout the school year. School instructor is eighth grade teacher, Joan Burnett.

Parishioners

Deacon Mark Kovacik and Luke Hottenroth meet with our confirmation group every Saturday at 2p.m. in the parish hall. Registration for confirmation begins each year in October. Registration is closed at this time. Please contact the parish for future enrollment possibilities.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)

of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ."
Peter 3:21

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults was reintroduced with Vatican II:

"The catechumenate for adults, comprising several distinct steps, is to be restored and brought into use." Sacrosanctum Concillium of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy.

The RCIA brings back to the church the ancient way of entering the church through the Baptismal process of conversion. Through a process based on experiencing the strength of the word of God, living liturgies, an extensive explanation of the teachings of the Catholic Church, and the development of the dynamics of a small Christian community, the candidates for RCIA enter into full communion with the Catholic Church and discover the richness of the Christian life.

RCIA classes are currently led by Agustín López and Deacon Mark Kovacik.

Adult Education

"Fear not for I have redeemed you: I have called you by name: you are mine."
Isaiah 43:1

A serious process of formation in the Catholic faith for young adults and adults seems most necessary due to the current challenges to our faith. Where infant baptism has become the form in which this Sacrament is usually celebrated, it has become a single act encapsulating the preparatory stages of Christian initiation in a very abridged way. By its very nature, infant baptism requires a post-baptismal catechumenate. Not only is there a need for instruction after baptism, but also for the necessary flowering of baptismal grace in personal growth. Our Parish recognizes this need and envisions the formation of small Christian communities as the way to evangelize and transform our families and our entire modern society. Please continue to refer to the church bulletin and visit our Web site for future offerings. (CCC)

Spanish Community
