Welcome to St. James Catholic Church!

"By his own choice the Father gave birth to us by the Word of Truth"
James 1:18

As stated in the Letter of St. James, the Spirit of St. James Parish is one of service to the NEW EVANGELIZATION of our contemporary world. The letter of St. James explores the relationship between faith and works. It stresses the importance of Christian works of eternal life that stem from an adult and mature faith. Faith is not simply private or individualistic; it springs forth in the same love of Christ, which creates the Christian community.

St. James parish is indeed a "community"- but what kind of community and for what purpose does it exist? The Second Vatican Council has addressed these questions about the fundamental nature of the Church, both the parish and universal, stating in the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, Gaudium et Spes:

While helping the world and receiving many benefits from it, the Church has a single intention: that God's kingdom may come, and that the salvation of the whole human race may come to pass. For every benefit which the People of God during its earthly pilgrimage can offer to the human family stems from the fact that the Church is "the universal sacrament of salvation", simultaneously manifesting and exercising the mystery of God's love for man. (GS 45).

This is the mission of St. James: That the Church, at both the parish and universal level, may be a visible SIGN of communion with Christ, that is, the actualization of the paschal mystery of Christ's life, death, and resurrection.

"Only from inside the Church's mystery of communion is the 'identity' of the lay faithful made known, and their fundamental dignity revealed. Only within the context of this dignity can their vocation and mission in the Church and in the world be defined" (CL 8).

This mystery of the Church, born from the Word of God made flesh in the Blessed Mother, is deep and dynamic; it is AN AMAZING EVENT emerging from the Announcement of the Love of God and our living response in the Liturgy. We invite you to share in this pilgrimage of faith, in this wonderful Sacrament of the Church, which is Saint James Catholic Parish.
